Martin Roemers is a photographer who explores the relationship between people and the worlds they inhabit, using everyday subjects to reveal deeper social truths. In Homo Mobilis, he travels across continents photographing individuals with their vehicles, suggesting that what we drive reflects identity, status, and culture. By isolating his subjects against a stark white backdrop, he removes context to focus entirely on the person and their vehicle as a kind of portrait. His work spans a wide range of countries and vehicles, highlighting both global diversity and shared human experiences. Straddling documentary and art, Roemers ultimately uses mobility as a lens to examine how modern life shapes identity and society.
